Mustangs excited for reinforcements, set for busy few days

Nov 24, 2021 | 9:17 AM

The Melfort Mustangs will begin a stretch of three games in four nights on Wednesday and there are some new faces in the lineup.

The Mustangs recently added 20-year-olds Nolan Doell from La Ronge and Mark Snarr from Kindersley to help in their quest for a Canalta Cup. Captain Ben Tkachuk said there’s a lot of excitement for their new pieces.

“They’re obviously two very good players, both captains on their previous teams,” Tkachuk said. “So, the boys are very excited, we’re obviously making a push for it this year, and I think everyone is pretty pumped to get them here and keep moving forward with them.”

The busy stretch for the Mustangs starts with a home meeting on Wednesday against the Melville Millionaires, a team the Mustangs have seen just once so far this season, a 3-2 overtime decision back at the showcase in Warman going in favour of the Mustangs.

After that, Melfort will head down south for their second road swing to Weyburn and Estevan on Friday and Saturday respectively.

It’s a busy stretch for the Blue and Green, but Tkachuk said it’s nothing new for them.

“October, we had a pretty busy schedule, so I think we’re used to it,” he said. “And I think we can hopefully get six points in these next three games.”

Melfort currently sits with a 13-7-1-1 record, good for fifth in the SJHL, but with one or two games in hand over the teams above them.
