Children ages five to 11 are rolling up their sleeves to get their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

On Nov. 24, the first pediatric COVID-19 vaccination clinics were held in Saskatchewan.

Although several communities are holding walk-in clinics, it is encouraged to book an appointment beforehand.

A list of clinics being held in northeast Saskatchewan are:

Carrot River

  • 3220 3rd Avenue (Community Hall) on Nov 26 (Friday) from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Kinistino

  • 208 Kinistino Avenue (Half Century Club) on Dec 8th (Wednesday) from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Melfort

  • 206 Bemister Ave E (Kerry Vickar Centre) on Nov 29 (Monday), Nov 3030 (Tuesday), Dec 14 (Tuesday) from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. all days.

Naicam

  • 305 1 St S (Naicam Senior Centre) on Dec 6 (Monday) from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

St. Brieux

  • 220 1 Ave (St. Brieux Community Center) on Dec 1 (Wednesday) from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Parents are left wondering how the announcement of the vaccine approval will affect their school-age children.

Kevin Garinger, Director of Education at Horizon School Division, said vaccination status will have no effect on students.

“We are in the same position that we have always been in. We believe it’s a family choice.”

Parents wanting to vaccinate their children will have to go through the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) due to protocols around five to 11-year-old vaccinations.

“No vaccines are happening for five -11 year olds in school as parents do need to be present. We support the SHA by simply providing information,” Garinger added. “We are trying to limit the number of people in schools and this is a way we can do that.”

Please visit the Saskatchewan Health Authority website for more information about pediatric COVID-19 vaccinations and how to book an appointment.
