Teddy Bear Toss

Mustangs fall to Terriers on Teddy Bear Toss night

Dec 4, 2021 | 10:17 AM

The teddy bears flew in Melfort on Friday, Dec. 4, but the result was not ideal for the Mustangs who fell 6-2 to the Yorkton Terriers.

It was the Mustangs’ fifth loss in a row, and forward Noah Wilson said they’ve been a bit inconsistent over this tough stretch of games.

“It’s just a matter of playing a full 60, and we haven’t been doing that during this stretch,” he said. “So, we really have to battle, we have to bring it for a full night.”

Carson Henry delayed the Mustangs’ teddy bear toss early in the first period as he opened the scoring for the Terriers.

But the stuffed animals came flying with less than five minutes to play in the first as Tye Scherger’s third goal of the season made him Mr. Teddy Bear 2021.

Steven Norum restored the Terrier lead before the end of the first period and things didn’t get better for Melfort after that.

Some penalty trouble in the third put the Mustangs down 5-1 as the Terriers scored two of their three goals in the period with the man advantage.

Curtis Hammond would bring things to 5-2 with his 12th of the year for Melfort, but it’s as close as Melfort would get.

Yorkton would add an empty netter in the third as the final dagger.

“You have to forget about it quick,” Wilson said. “So, it’s good to be playing tomorrow, we can leave it behind us and hopefully play a full 60 tomorrow.”

Melfort hosts Melville tonight at the Palace. 7:30 p.m. puck drop.
