Listen: Johnny Reid talks Love Someone tour with two shows scheduled for Melfort

Dec 8, 2021 | 4:00 PM

In just two months time, Johnny Reid will begin his 2022 Love Someone tour with two dates in Melfort.

The national tour for the multi-platinum, JUNO award winning singer-songwriter kicks off on Feb. 10 in London, Ont.

Reid told northeastNOW getting back on stage and reconnecting with friends is what the tour is all about.

“I have done a couple of shows in the past couple of months for private events but I’m so excited to get back on stage in such an intimate environment,” Reid said.

After many shows were cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Reid said the tour also aims to make up for some lost time.

“We found ourselves unable to see each other, unable to hug each other and be with each other so this is a great chance for us to get back on the road and I have missed it,” Reid said. “I have really missed the energy, I really miss the connection with people.”

With having over 100 shows across the country and in places that he wasn’t sure he would be able to visit again, Reid called it “a real blessing.”

“I really wanted to make sure that people feel comfortable and that this was the right thing and everyone would be safe and sound and we could have fun without that big black cloud above us,” Reid said. “There were definitely a lot of nerves about a year ago regarding this but I think people realize we are in a better place now.”

A lot of smaller venues and communities are included in the tour including the Melfort shows on May 21 and 22 at the Kerry Vickar Centre.

“It’s just myself sitting up there, speaking to people, telling some stories, play some music and might bring some friends,” Reid said. “Kind of get back to some sort of normalcy.”

He will share songs from the new album as well as songs that he has been singing throughout the years.

“Being able to sit down with these songs and perform them the way they were actually written, which on piano or acoustic guitar, it’s going to be really special,” Reid said.

The show will be special for not only those in attendance but for Reid himself to share the songs in that fashion, he said.

As for the Love Someone album, Reid said there are some new songs but also some that were put to paper several years ago.

“I just never felt that they were ready to go on a record yet so having a chance to live with these songs for an extended period of time and so the album was really a refined record,” Reid said. “I think people will be able hear that when they listen to the songs.”

Excited was a word that Reid used multiple times to describe how he was feeling ahead of the big tour.

“I have really missed everybody, the response to the tour has been amazing and I’m very much looking forward to being at your place and having a good time,” Reid said.

There are still tickets available for the two shows in Melfort.

The E.A Rawlinson Centre in Prince Albert will also host Reid on March 18 and 19.

Johnny Reid joins northeastNOW’s Angie Rolheiser to talk about the Love Someone Tour that will be stopping in Melfort in May.
