Tisdale Ramblers hosting dance in place of postponed annual rodeo

The Tisdale Ramblers Senior Hockey team has held their annual Rodeo and Trade Fair for over 20 years and it’s something the area is accustomed to.

Unfortunately, the team has been unable to do so for the past two years, which has left them searching for something else.

It seems as though they’ve now found their replacement as they’re set to hold a Boxing Day Dance with live music performed by local band, Kings and Renegades.

Marketing officer of the Tisdale Ramblers Dwight Marleau told northeastnow yearly events like these are something the Ramblers take pride in hosting, as it’s something people in the area look forward to.

“The area needs something where people are able to get together again because we haven’t had that for a while,” he said. “We’ve been putting on the rodeo for 20 some years, so this is basically just another way to get a function happening in a small town.”

Marleau also said there were a few ideas circling around for what to do instead of the rodeo. However, this was one that’s happened before and had previous success.

“Tisdale used to always have an Alumni Dance on Boxing Day and it was a big hit. It kind of fell in the wayside, so we thought it’s not a big risk. We got the local band and we got a great facility, so we figured it should be a good turnout. It’ll be a nice thing to happen again.”

And according to Marleau, this might not be a one-time thing that falls off once the rodeo returns, as it’s something they’re thinking about bringing back for good.

“It’s like a revitalization because so many people have been homebound and now we’re able to host things like this again and people can come on out, that’s what people need,” said Marleau. “People need to socialize, that’s what small town Saskatchewan is. It’s a friendly place and it’s great to get out with your friends and neighbours that you haven’t seen in a long time.”

And for the Ramblers, this event will fulfill their experience, as Marleau mentioned it as something quite similar to a tradition.

“It’s basically to just get back to the small town dances again. We kind of grew up with this in our early years, the Ramblers and now it’s time for the new generation to enjoy what we did back in the day. It’s going to be a good time.”

Gates will open at 9 p.m. on Dec. 26, at the Tisdale RECplex Auditorium and COVID-19 protocols will be in place. You must be 19 years or older to attend and advance tickets are currently being sold at J’s Tisdale Hotel and Pub and Crowley’s Clothing and Footwear for $15. Tickets will be $20 at the door.

The entire Ramblers team will be there, as they will be working the doors and the bar.
