Temporary closure of post office in Smeaton

Staffing issues has led to the temporary closure of the post office in Smeaton.

Canada Post confirmed the situation in an email to northeastNOW.

While a contingency plan is in the works, residents of the community can pick-up their mail at the Legion Hall.

“Once plans are finalized, we will communicate them to customers,” Eunice Machuhi with Canada Post Media Relations said.

The temporary location at 106 Veteran St. will be open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday.

“We thank the residents of Smeaton for their patience and understanding,” Machuhi said.

Customers must provide a government issued ID when collecting their mail.

Any questions regarding mail delivery can be forwarded to the Canada Post Customer Service team at 1-866-607-6301.
