Returning to their roots

Tisdale Ramblers happy with results as season nears second half

The Tisdale Ramblers Senior Hockey team have now played seven of their 16 total scheduled regular season games.

They currently sit in fourth place in the North Division of the Wheatland Senior Hockey League with a record of four and three.

Marketing officer of the Tisdale Ramblers Dave Marleau told northeastnow this year has been a little different after coming off a pandemic year.

However, different doesn’t mean bad.

“We’ve picked up a bunch more local talent to play on the team, basically not knowing how they would fit in with the league but they’ve really shown up and stepped up,” said Marleau. “Mario Fortier is one of the top scorers in our league and he’s one of those guys. It’s really turning out well and our guys are battling.”

Marleau also mentioned how some of that success has really shown up in how well the team is being supported this year.

“All the teams are basically in the same barrel and it’s turned out to be a pretty good season for us so far this year. We’ve noticed more people in the stands because people are looking for some good entertainment and we’re getting a pretty decent product on the ice. The guys that are playing on the team are feeling it too because they’re rejuvenated now. They’re really enjoying the game and it shows on the ice with what they’ve put on with the show.”

Marleau said, however, the support isn’t necessarily super surprising as the amount of local boys and time away from the sport has really contributed.

“We’ve got 15 local kids out of our 25 and we’re getting a lot of fan support from their families,” he said. “We’re looking up at the stands now and it’s more than that now. We’re getting back to our roots again and it’s really showing up in the stands, which is great. People are enjoying the senior hockey that’s in this country now.”

And according to Marleau, he feels this team has a great shot heading into the rest of the season, including playoffs and the goal reflects that.

“It’s setting up pretty well, the guys are buying into the Ramblers history that we have here. We got to put the product on the ice and we have to compete with everybody. No one takes a shift off and the boys are getting better and better, so I think this back half of the year is going to be pretty interesting for us. I’m hoping we’re going to finish in that top two or three but we have to keep in mind that everybody else is also improving. Our goal is achievable, so the boys are pretty pumped up to step up to the plate and make things happen here.”
