Second shutout for Ramsay as Broncos dominate over Klippers

Dec 15, 2021 | 10:47 AM

Some early goals in the first period set the tone for the rest of the game as the Broncos welcomed the Klippers to the Elgar Petersen Arena on Tuesday night.

Goalie Rayce Ramsay would earn his second shutout of his career after stopping 24 shots on goal in the 8-0 win for the Broncos.

Ramsay said it was a team effort throughout the game.

“That just goes to show more about what we did as a team out there tonight and obviously we could put the puck in the net and we did a good job at limiting opportunities so it made my job easy.”

With his performance last week against Notre Dame and Estevan and stopping two shots out of 65, Ramsay also earned MVP accolades from the SJHL and now leads the Canadian Junior Hockey League for wins in goal.

The only honours Ramsay cares about he said is the team wins.

“The only accolade I want is a SJHL champion so that’s what we’re working towards as a team and we’re just going to keep doing that.”

Within five and a half minutes of play the Broncos would be up by three with goals from Braiden Koran and two for Conner McGrath.

Koran would get his second of the night with a little over three minutes left in the period to bring the Broncos up by four going into the second period.

The goals would continue into the second with Koran turning the hat trick 1:53 into the second followed by a goal from Matthew Perkins midway through the period. This would be Koran’s 11th, 12th, and 13th goals of the season, and his second hat trick of his career following his first against Notre Dame last week. Koran has now reached the ninth position on the SJHL leading scorer’s list with 33 points in 33 games.

The third period would be more goals for the Broncos with Alec Saretzky earning his 21st of the season and Alex Morozoff earning his sixth in his first 13 games as a Bronco.

With 24 points earned during the evening, six Broncos are now gracing the list of top scorers in the SJHL. McGrath once again in the number one spot after overcoming Estevan’s Mark Rumsey top performance over the past few weeks. With two goals and three assists McGrath earned five points for a total 49 points in his last 33 games. Saretzky sits at number three with 42 points in 33 games and Perkins has gained some ground to sit at fourth with 40 points in 32 games.

The Broncos will now travel to Notre Dame for a game on Friday against the Hounds.
