Carlton Trail College is helping those in need this holiday season

Carlton Trail College is making the holidays a bit brighter for those in need.

Staff and board members organized an internal food drive. Donated items will be taken to the Greater Learning District food banks.

The five food banks that will benefit are Humboldt & District Food Bank, Lanigan & District Food Bank, Wadena Food Bank, Watrous Food Bank, and Wynyard Food Bank.

Jennifer Brooks, Development and Communications Director, said their mission was to spread Christmas cheer in a way that benefits the community.

“Lead by our board of directors, CTC was looking to support our larger region,” Brooks told northeastNOW. “We decided a food drive was the best way to give to those individuals, families, and students who may need a bit of a boost this holiday season.”

As the college’s food drive comes to an end, they are still counting the final donation numbers but they don’t want the food banks to wait too long to receive assistance during their busiest season.

“We made a cash donation to each of the five food banks within our larger learning region.”

Each food bank received a donation of $100 to support the purchase of additional food products.

Brooks said the college wanted to ensure the donation reached a large number of people in the community.

“Carlton Trail College staff and board members live within our larger region, so we live where you live,” Brooks added. “We wanted to make sure we can support our friends, neighbours, and family members to provide a positive seasonal experience.”

Although the past 12 to 18 months have been challenging, Brooks said the college wants to offer support to the study body, friends, and neighbours.

“We are hoping to spread some happiness throughout the season and encourage individuals to have a brighter Christmas and to celebrate with friends and family.”
