A GoFundMe page has been started to support a Melfort family who lost their home in a fire on Wednesday night.

The Melfort Fire Department responded to the home on Burrows Ave W. at 6:48 p.m. Crews worked in the frigid temperatures until around 4 a.m. to extinguish the blaze and keep it from spreading to nearby homes and power lines.

SaskPower was also on hand to shut off service to overhead power lines while the fire was being put out.

Fortunately, there were no injuries as a result of the fire.

According to fire chief Shaun Stewart, the cause of the fire is currently unknown.

Erin Wiseman created the online fundraising page on Thursday morning for her sister Marcie Powers.

“I would like to help my sister, a single mom to three kiddos get back on her feet,” Wiseman wrote. “If you are able to help in any way, we thank you.”

The gofundme page has raised nearly $1,600 within six hours of creation.
