People in the northeast are helping children in the hospital by enjoying a sweet treat made by a young girl from Yellow Creek.

Ava Rose Cheesecakes sold her baking through the month of December and donated all proceeds raised to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation (JPCHF).

Ava said she wanted to make something that could be shared over the holidays.

“I thought they were yummy and a perfect dessert for Christmas. They were also easy to make.”

With each cheesecake taking an average of 15 minutes to produce, Ava was able to complete an impressive four cheesecakes an hour.

“I made cherry cheesecake. It was $30 for a cheesecake.”

The goal was to make 70 cheesecakes which would have totalled $2,100 in donations. She ended up selling 86 cheesecakes and receiving additional donations for a grand total of $3,000 to JPCHF.

“I think the children’s hospital is a fantastic place to raise money for. Now that the hospital is built we need to make sure that they have everything they need to help the kids.”

The 12-year-old has been helping children who are spending the holidays in the hospital for the last five years.

“In 2017 I used my birthday money to buy gifts for the kids in the hospital. In 2019 I made 64 cheesecakes and raised $1,600.”

With the help of her mother Kristin, the duo was able to deliver cheesecakes to St. Brieux and within Melfort. For those wanting a cheesecake but were not in the delivery area, a special delivery was made.

“I made the cheesecake they ordered and we gave it to the Melfort food bank for them to put into their Christmas hampers.”

With Ava making the filling and her mother making the crusts, the pair discussed the possibility of needing more help if they take on this project in 2022.

“It’s a lot of work but my mom and I have been thinking of ways to change it. Maybe having one of my friends come and help me.”
