Two arrested after a stolen vehicle hits the ditch near Nipawin

Nipawin RCMP has arrested two Manitoba residents in connection with a stolen vehicle found in a ditch.

On Feb. 7 at approximately 3:00 p.m., Nipawin detachment was dispatched to the scene of a vehicle driving into a ditch on Highway 55 just east of town.

As officers arrived, they discovered the license plate had been removed. Both the driver and passenger were still in the vehicle as law enforcement assessed the scene.

After future investigation, they found the vehicle was reported stolen from Swan River, Man. two days before on Feb 5.

Once officers inspected the vehicle, they found several weapons and an illegally-modified loaded firearm that was found buried under the car.

All weapons were seized and both the driver and passenger were arrested without incident.

Marty Nelson, 28, of Swan River, Man. is charged with:

  • one count of possession of property obtained by crime;
  • two counts of possession of a weapon contrary to a court order;
  • three counts of carrying a concealed weapon;
  • three counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • one count of possessing a loaded firearm in a vehicle;
  • one count of possessing a prohibited weapon;
  • one count of careless use of a firearm;
  • one count of fail to comply with a probation order.

Nelson has had his first appearance in court and will remain in custody until his next appearance on April 27 at Nipawin Provincial Court.

Kieshia Kematch, 21, of Minitonas, Man. is charged with:

  • one count of possession of property obtained by crime;
  • three counts of failure to comply with release order;
  • one count of an occupant in the motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm.

Kenmatch has had her first appearance in court and will report in custody until her next appearance on Feb. 16 at Nipawin Provincial Court.
