Valuable points left in Kindersley as Broncos fall against Klippers

Feb 20, 2022 | 11:08 AM

As the season ticks down to its final games, the Humboldt Broncos are needing every point they can as they fight to finish on top of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

Unfortunately, the Klippers came out on top as the Broncos fell 3-2 on Saturday night on their road trip to Kindersley.

The eighth-place Klippers, who are 23-26-1-1 in 51 games this season, are fighting a battle of their own as they cling to playoff contention.

With 44 shots on net, only two would find the back of the net with goals from Rhett Gibson, his eighth of the season, and Jerzy Orchard, for his fifth. Both teams kept pace with each other through the first and second periods.

A goal from Klipper Andrew Schaab in the third would go unanswered as the Broncos could not get past goalie Matthew Pesenti to find the equalizer, even after pulling Broncos goalie William Dyke for the man advantage as the last remaining minutes of the game ticked on.

Dyke would take the L for the Broncos stopping 15 of the 18 shots the Klippers fired his way.

The Broncos will have a chance to right those wrongs in a rematch on Monday afternoon at the Elgar Petersen Arena.

Puck drop is at 3 p.m. and admission is free for Family Day. Following the game, a community skate with the Broncos will follow.

Six games of the season remain for the Broncos, including three on home ice, as they look to improve on their current 39-13-0-0 record.
