An exciting season coming for two of northeast favorite golfing spots

With the unpredictable weather, people across the northeast are wondering when they can finally enjoy their favourite outdoor activities.

Birch Hills Golf Course and St. Brieux Regional Park and Golf Course are already gearing up for an eventful summer.

Jordan Carrier, vice-chair for Birch Hills golf course, said the golf course is looking to inspire new golfers to give the course a try.

“We’ve implemented a half-price entry-level, first-year membership rate. So trying to drive some new members to the course that’s available for people to try.”

Carrier explains that due to COVID golf has seen an influx of new players coming out to enjoy the sport and Birch Hills has the perfect course for all skill levels.

“There are no sand traps to get stuck in just a couple of grass bunkers and a little bit of water. It’s a nice enjoyable nine holes.”

Birch Hills is hosting its annual general meeting on April 4 in hopes of getting two new board members to help make the upcoming season more exciting for golfers.

Tenyll Cook, general manager of St. Brieux Regional Park and Golf Course, said this is a landmark year for the golf course.

“It is the park’s 50th anniversary this year. So we will be celebrating that on August long.”

The weekend will have a mini-golf tournament and other family-oriented events.

Fathers Day weekend will also be one for the books as there will be a golf tournament with all the proceeds being donated to prostate cancer awareness.

Yoga in the park, a farmers market and extra swimming lessons will be offered to those who prefer to sit out a trip around the links.

Cook explained the snow we currently have on the ground is a blessing in disguise.

“Last year, because it was so dry, we had a fire ban on for most of the summer, unfortunately. So I’m hoping with the moisture that we’re getting this year it’ll help eliminate that this year.”

Neither golf course has set an opening day yet as it is weather dependent but the St.Brieux Regional Park opening date is set for May 20.
