Ideal applicants will be able to think quickly, assess a situation appropriately and be prepared for anything.

“We provide water rescue, ice rescue, confined space rescue, high angle rope rescue, low angle rope rescue as well as vehicle extrication.”

Those who make it past the application stage go into training which is two stages in the beginning.

“There’s the on on the job training. We have twice a month practices where they’ll learn the ins and outs before they get thrown right into it.”

Lytle said before going to a fire, candidates will go through basic training. Additionally, the department is undergoing training to meet the National Fire Prevention Association 1001.

“That’s one thing when we’re looking at new applicants that they understand we’re looking to further training beyond just your general knowledge stuff, we’re offering the ability to become a fully certified firefighter to an international standard.”

The team is looking for members that are passionate about helping their community.
