Two Broncos honoured by the league for February performance

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League released their player of the month list this week and two Humboldt Broncos are being honoured for their performance in February.

Rayce Ramsay has been named Sasktel goaltender of the month.

The 21-year-old from Saskatoon won eight of nine starts last month and posted an incredible 1.12 goals-against-average and .956 save percentage.

Ramsay has been a huge asset for the Broncos this season posting a mind-boggling 2,913 minutes and 49 games between the pipes, far more than any other SJHL goalie this season.

While the awards and plaudits continue to grow for Humboldt goalie, Rayce Ramsay, no one will ever hear him take the credit.

Assistant coach, Carter Hansen, told northeastNOW that is what makes him unique.

“That’s what helps the guys play hard in front of them, you know, he’s never gonna be the guy that says it’s all about him. So I think that’s what helps all 20 guys buy in to help one common goal and that’s just getting wins.”

Broncos forward Connor McGrath was honoured for his performance with the RBC forward of the month acknowledgement.

The 18-year-old from LeRoy, Sask. is far ahead of the rest of the SJHL scorers as he continues to maintain a first place performance this season.

February was no exception as he posted a two points-per-game and a goal-a-game average in 10 games.

With 82 points this season and two more regular season games to play, McGrath has posted 33 goals and 49 assists this season.

Similar to what Ramsay, and numerous other players have been saying all season, McGrath told northeastNOW that it is a team effort.

“It’s good to be rewarded (but) couldn’t have done it without all the teammates and everybody in the room there, so yeah, testaments all them and how good a team game we play every night.”

With two more games on the road finishing off the season, the green and gold will have a chance to rest before moving into the playoffs.
