New owners of Melfort restaurant excited to re-open

Local foodies can celebrate soon as a popular restaurant will open its doors again in Melfort.

The Boston Pizza in the Stonegate Shopping Centre closed in January. The previous owner told Avatex, the company that owns Stonegate, they were closing permanently.

When news of the closure hit, Avatex told northeastNOW the location would likely be closed for months as they worked to find new owners and operates and complete much-needed renovations for the space.

Fast forward to the present day and new operators have been found and are working hard to bring patrons back in.

“Everyone’s super excited, super supportive and they’re really nice people so far. Really, really happy to be here, excited to get going,” said Trevor Ritchie, one of the new franchisees.

Ritchie is part of Premier Management, a restaurant management company based out of Edmonton which operates several Boston Pizza locations in that province.

This is the first time the family-owned business will be running a Boston Pizza in Saskatchewan.

“We’ve kind of grown over the years and that kind of thing,” said Ritchie. “Very excited to get out there and kind of test a new market for us. But also, Boston Pizza has been part of this family for a really long time.”

Jenna Scaife, the new general manager for the restaurant is just as excited to re-open, saying they plan to bring in a mix of former staff members and new employees.

Ritchie added they held a job fair last week and met many interested people.

“A lot of returning staff and also a good mix of new people that haven’t worked for Boston Pizza before and a couple people with their first jobs. So, a really good mix of new and old, I’d say.”

Right now, there’s no confirmed date for the official re-opening but Ritchie is hopeful it could happen sometime next week.

Regardless Ritchie and Scaife are excited to bring the brand back to Melfort and engage with the town.

“Just really looking forward to servicing the community as a whole and getting involved with some sports and community involvements,” said Ritchie. “(We’re) just really looking forward to opening the store back up to the people of Melfort and starting hopefully a really long relationship here with everybody.”

“Opening to the community is a big thing for me. It’s a very big, exciting time,” said Scaife.
