COUNCIL MEETING

Base tax and mill rate bylaws one of several items on Melfort council agenda

Apr 11, 2022 | 12:00 PM

Base taxes and the city’s mill rate will be the major focus for Melfort city council when they convene on Monday.

City council is expected to give first, second, and final reading to the 2022 Base Tax and Mill Rate Bylaw.

Council approved the 2022 budget in early February which will see a 4.16 per cent increase in residential property taxes.

Councillors discussed different options at the Feb. 14 meeting to address a $277,161 deficit presented by the city treasurer.

The current mill rate for many Melfort properties sits at 10.30 per cent but council was encouraged to approve a rate increase to 10.69 per cent during budget talks.

Other items on the council agenda include an assessment, feasibility study for the Northern Lights Palace, and reports from protective services, community services, and works & utilities.

The regular meeting of City council is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.
