Roughriders load up on draft picks, territorial juniors before camp

Linebacker Tommy Bringi — A 5-foot-11, 229-pounder, Bringi was Saskatchewan’s fourth-round pick (36th overall). He spent three seasons at Wilfrid Laurier University, recording 147 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, three interceptions and two pass breakups in 23 games. He was named an OUA first-team all-star in 2019 and 2021.

Defensive back Tristan Fleury — The 6-foot-2, 192-pounder was a fifth-round pick (45th overall) after four seasons at McGill University. Fleury recorded 120 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble, three interceptions and seven pass breakups during his time at McGill.

Defensive back Jayden Dalke — A sixth-round pick (54th overall) out of the University of Alberta, the 6-foot-1, 203-pound Dalke played in 16 games over three seasons with the Golden Bears. He recorded 94 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions, seven pass breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. In 2021, he was named a Canada West first-team all-star and a U Sports second-team All-Canadian.

Defensive back Zach Herzog — The 5-foot-9, 192-pounder was selected by the Roughriders in the seventh round (63rd overall). Herzog spent five seasons at Hillsdale College, amassing 244 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, one sack, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, three interceptions and eight pass breakups in 30 games. He was named a first-team conference all-star three times.

Wide receiver Riley Boersma — The University of Regina product was Saskatchewan’s pick in the eighth round (72nd overall). The 5-foot-10, 191-pounder caught 39 passes for 763 yards and six touchdowns in 19 games over four seasons with the Rams.

Saskatchewan has yet to sign its first-round pick, receiver Samuel Emilus, or its third-rounder, offensive lineman Diego Alatorre Montoya.

The juniors the Roughriders added were:

Linebacker/long-snapper Konner Johnson — The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder was named a PFC all-star in 2021 after recording 26 tackles, a conference-leading 12 special-teams tackles, five pass knockdowns, five interceptions and one sack for the Saskatoon Hilltops.

Offensive lineman Connor Klassen — A 6-foot-3, 308-pounder from the PFC’s Regina Thunder, Klassen was named a 2021 PFC all-star.

Defensive lineman Reece McCormick — Another Thunder product, the 6-foot-2, 273-pounder had 16 tackles and three sacks last season en route to being named a PFC all-star, a CJFL All-Canadian and the PFC’s rookie of the year.

Offensive lineman Riley Schick — The 6-foot-1, 299-pounder played alongside Klassen on the Thunder’s offensive line. Schick also was named a PFC all-star in 2021.

Finally, University of Regina quarterback Josh Donnelly will head to the Roughriders’ camp under the internship program, just as Noah Picton did in 2017.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Donnelly has played in 11 games over three seasons with the Rams, completing 189 passes for 2,946 yards and 20 touchdowns and rushing 37 times for 211 yards.
