Organizers are calling on the Prince Albert community to come out and support Frank Young and his family during a vigil being planned for tonight.

People will gather at the MMIWG2S memorial on the river bank at 8 p.m. Frank’s family will be in attendance at the vigil. People are encouraged to bring candles.

Sheryl Kimbley, special event coordinator with Prince Albert Grand Council (PAGC), told paNOW that this has been the easiest event to plan since people and businesses have been jumping at the chance to support the vigil and the family.

Kimbley got the call from Young’s grandmother asking for them to plan the vigil and they are humbled to do so, she said. She has already seen a lot of shares of the vigil information online and many people have been contacting her from across the country asking how they can participate.

“Obviously, people have been following the heartbreaking story of Frank and his family and his community and that means a lot a lot to them. I’m glad that people are coming through in a big way to support.”

Red Earth Cree Nation is part of the PAGC who has been supporting the Nation any way they can, said Kimbley.

“Our executive has been making regular trips out there, a lot of our staff, our search and rescue team are out there.”

Speaking with the Young family, Kimbley said they are heartbroken but still strong and resilient.

“They’re worried but they are continuing to keep the hope, you know, and the fact that they’re coming to pray and you know, and show hope tonight is just shows me how much they’re hoping that little Frank will come back home.”

Samanatha Meng started planning a vigil in Edmonton last week which turned into a Canada-wide call for vigils for the missing 5-year-old.

While she may be hundreds of miles from Red Earth Cree Nation, Frank Young’s story hit home for her, she said.

“It has just really stuck with me. I sit and I look at my kids and I wonder how it would be if one of my own went missing.”

The search continues for Frank who was last seen on April 19 around 12:30 p.m. at his home on Red Earth Cree Nation.
