Several Saskatchewan high schools finished their badminton season with trips to provincials in Rosthern this past weekend.

Central and northern schools were no exception with representatives in all five of the categories.

Three teams were in provincial contention in the Mixed Doubles play and two would bring home some hardware.

In the battle for gold, Carrot River’s Lexi Yurkowski and Caden Drury would lose out to Centennial High School’s Michael Chai and Nilah Ong to bring home silver.

Lloydminster’s Shepherd Gow and Ara Huerto had bronze medal success after beating Lemberg’s Jake Mayo and Saren Petrychyn.

The St Mary’s pair of Alex de Padua and Jazlyn Pshebnicki also competed but could not make it to the playoff round.

The Girls’ Doubles were also well represented with four pairs going for gold.

Lloydminster’s Bree Brassard and Krezhanna Delima took home silver after a loss against Campbell Collegiate’s Jenny Liu and Jiayan Cau.

Leoville’s Brodie Geiger and Rylee Harris lost against Ponteix’s Sierra Ross and Daniela Palaganas for a fourth-place finish.

Also competing were White Fox’s Martina Moore and Jayden Spice and Melfort’s Kamryn Heavin and Jada Stevenson.

Three local players were up for Girls’ Single gold with Shellbrook’s Marissa Skavlebo taking home silver after a loss to O’Neill’s Nataly Eng. Choiceland’s Grace Chamberlain won provincial bronze after defeating Moose Jaw’s Kenzie Behrns.

Also competing was Lloydminster’s Emma Gray.

In Boys’ Doubles, it may have been a battle for Saskatoon in the gold medal match but Carrot River’s AJ Trew and Brady Shmyr won the bronze after beating out Regina’s LeBoldus team of Caleb Woodrow and Mathew Takach.

It was a similar story for Keston Gerard from Sturgeon Lake School in the Boys’ Single category as he would beat out Osler’s Davis Laskowski for provincial bronze.

Also competing as a single was Riley Sylvestre from Muenster.

Saskatchewan high schools will now turn their efforts to track and field and flag football competitions as the school year draws to a close.
