Mustangs add ‘power forward’ ahead of next season

The Melfort Mustangs are adding a new forward to their squad.

The team announced on Wednesday they’ve signed Calgary-native Christian Mealey for next season.

Mealey, who stands at 6’1’’ and comes in at 181 lbs, spent the past season with the Kimberley Dynamiters of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) in B.C.’s Junior B circuit.

In 36 games during the regular season, he scored 21 goals and added another 19 assists for 40 points. He really shined during the playoffs, leading the team in scoring with 10 goals and eight assists in 16 games.

“Christian is a big power forward who can finish around the net,” said Mustangs Head Coach and General Manager Trevor Blevins. “His high compete level will fit well with our forward group.”

Mealey has played four games for the Olds Grizzlys of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) to start this past season.
