It was a repeat at the 2022 Bob Dow Memorial Men’s Open at the Nipawin’s Evergreen Golf Course.

Over the weekend, Garet Comfort and TJ Baker won the annual golf tournament, two shots ahead of second place.

Comfort, who works at the golf course, told northeastNOW they know each other because of their dads but never really played together.

However, the two decided to join forces for last year’s tournament.

“We had the idea last year a couple of days before, how about the sons play against the dads and see who comes out on top.”

This weekend was also the first time Comfort and Baker have played together since last year’s championship.

Baker played Division 2 golf in the U.S. for the University of Arkansas at Monticello during this past school year.

Despite this, a laughing Comfort claimed they each played equally well.

“I think it was a pretty fair share, I would be out of a hole, and he’d find a way to birdie it, and vice versa, he’d hit a bad shot and I’d be right there behind him to back him up.”

Comfort noted the two will most likely go for a three-peat during the 2023 memorial tournament. He added even if they were to accomplish the feat, it would be hard to beat the excitement they got from this year’s win.

Throughout the tournament, two of Comfort’s friends kept pace and were close to claiming the title.

“They got off to a very hot start and ended up taking the lead after the front nine, on the back nine we got it back to all square and it was a nail-biter going back and forth.”

Meanwhile, taking home this year’s Senior Division title was Rick Mortensen and Doug Boivin.
