The Melfort Mustangs have added its eighth commit of the off-season and fifth in the past week.

Aiden Wildeman, a 2004-born player, marks the second defenceman the Mustangs have committed for the upcoming SJHL season.

The 6’2″, 190lbs, Port Moody, B.C. blueliner, spent his 2021/2022 season with the Greater Vancouver Canadians U18 AAA club in the BC Elite Hockey League (BCEHL). In 36 games with the Canadians, Wildeman scored four goals and added 22 assists. His 22 assists led the team and were tied for the league lead, while his 26 points were second-best on the team and tied for third among defensemen league-wide. He would also go on to add four helpers in five playoff games.

In a press release sent to northeastNOW, Trevor Blevins, Head Coach and General Manager commented on his newest player.

“Aiden is a strong physical defenceman that is not only responsible defensively, but uses his creativity and awareness to produce on the scoresheet,” said Blevins. “He will fit in very well with our group on our blue line.”

And while Wildeman did not play during the 2020/2021 COVID-shortened season, he did in 2019/2020, suiting up in a total of 30 games for the Vancouver NE Chiefs U16 AAA club, scoring three goals and adding 19 assists for 22 points.

The Mustangs are very excited to welcome Aiden, both to their organization and the City of Melfort.
