Jun 6, 2022 | 1:18 PM

Carter Anderson is adding his name to the recent list of former Melfort Mustangs, who are taking their hockey careers south of the border.

The 2001-born forward joins the likes of Marco Lopez, Curtis Hammond, Seth McCulloch and more, who are extending their playing days past Melfort.

The Langley, B.C. product, will join the Anna Maria Amcats for the 2022/23 season, a part of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference in NCAA Division III.

Anderson, spent two seasons with the Mustangs, playing a total of 57 games. This past year, he scored 20 goals and added 27 assists, both good for third on the team, which amassed 47 points in 54 games, ranking fourth on the club. He would add two assists in two playoff games.

During the 2020/2021 COVID-shortened season, he joined the Mustangs for three games before the season was shut down.

In a press release sent to northeastNOW, Anderson spoke on his decision.

“I am extremely excited to be going to Anna Maria this upcoming year to further my hockey career and get a top-level education at the same time.”

Prior to his time in the SJHL, Anderson played 36 games for the Calgary Canucks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), scoring six goals and adding 10 assists for 16 points.

Anderson is also a veteran of 57 regular season Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) games with the Revelstoke Grizzlies. During parts of two seasons, Anderson scored 25 goals and added 25 assists for 50 points. He played a total of 25 playoff games with the Grizzles as well, scoring eight goals and adding 10 assists for 18 points which included a KIJHL Championship in 2018/2019.

The Melfort Mustangs are proud to announce another one of their alumni, continuing on to succeed at higher levels, and would like to thank Carter for his time spent with the organization.
