Climate cash to be direct deposited in July

Jul 7, 2022 | 12:00 PM

Residents of Saskatchewan will be getting a new cheque from the government on July 15 as the climate rebate switches to a new payment system.

To be eligible for what will become quarterly payments, you must be a resident of Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba or Ontario.

Recipients will also need to meet one of three requirements: to be at least 19 years old, have or had a spouse or common-law partner or are a parent and now live or previously lived with your child.

There is no application needed for the Climate Action Incentive Payment, (CAIP) as the federal government has named it.

The plan is not new but until this year, rebates were given out as part of tax returns. Starting on July 15, they will become a quarterly payment similar to the GST/HST rebates.

Because of the timelines followed by the CRA when it comes to benefit years which generally start on July 1, the first payment was not issued in April and will be combined with the July payment.

People living in rural and remote communities receive a 10 per cent supplement. In Saskatchewan, this is anyone outside the Regina and Saskatoon metropolitan areas.

Another supplement is added for underage children in the home.

People wanting to know how much they will receive should find a statement in their online CRA account
