
City of Humboldt advises residents on new smoke and carbon monoxide alarm requirements
Back on January 1, 2022, the Construction Codes Act and Building Code Regulations came into effect in Saskatchewan replacing the Uniform Building and Accessibility Standards Act and Regulations (UBAS Act and Regs), respectively.
With this change, new regulations include mandatory smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in residential buildings, which have now come into force on July 1, 2022, something the Humboldt Fire Department is informing their residents on.
“Some homes in Humboldt may not have functioning carbon monoxide alarms,” said Humboldt Fire Chief Mike Kwasnica, in a press release sent to northeastNOW. “Often called the invisible killer, CO (Carbon Monoxide) is an odourless, colourless gas created when fuels burn incompletely. We want all residents to understand the requirements for CO alarms.”
