Northeast contributing to Miracle Treat Day

The Melfort Dairy Queen, along with Tisdale, Nipawin, Humboldt and Wakaw, have all joined Miracle Treat Day, in support of the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.

On Thursday, August 11, DQ fans across northeast Saskatchewan are encouraged to continue the 20-year tradition of making miracles happen for children and their families by visiting their local DQ to celebrate Miracle Treat Day.

Melfort Dairy Queen General Manager, Kush Patel told northeastNOW they’re proud to contribute as much as they can, during this special day.

“We want to do this for the sick kids, we think it’s a great cause. We raised about $2,100 last year, but we’re hoping to reach at least $3,000 this year. We’ve already sold/made 140 blizzards and we’ve only been open for 15 minutes.”

Net proceeds from every Blizzard Treat purchased at participating DQ stores, will be donated to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation, one of 12 Children’s Miracle Network hospital foundations across Canada.

Patel added that his store has been working with other local DQ stores to make today the best they can.

“We’ve been calling each other and organizing things together, so we can all reach our goal. We’ve all been advertising as much as we can, so people know about the day and come out and support it.”

What’s raised locally stays local, so every dollar donated from DQ stores will go directly to the local Canadian children’s hospital foundation in each community.

DQ employees, franchisees, volunteers and stakeholders come together throughout the year to help raise funds that allow children’s hospitals to provide the best care possible.

And Patel explained how it wasn’t just the stores themselves that make this day possible.

“The community support has been great. Lots of businesses have inquired about buying blizzards and supporting as much as they can. As a franchise, we want to help with the efforts in Saskatoon. Lots of great work is being done in the northeast.”

In 2021 alone, local children’s hospitals across Canada delivered care to children through nearly 3 million in-person and virtual visits.

Since the partnership began 38 years ago in 1984, DQ has become a top contributor to Children’s Miracle Network, with over $46 million raised to date in Canada alone.

While there won’t be any special volunteers handing out blizzards at the Melfort location today, any kid that comes in will get a free mini blizzard, along with their order, before the store closes at 10 p.m.
