Despite the casual nature of the Nipawin slo-pitch league, the final tournament of the season ended up crowning a winner this past weekend.

The Zoo’d Crew defeated Blue Ballers to take the Nipawin Slo-Pitch League title, with Catch and Release in third place and the Brew Jays in fourth.

Eight teams participated in the wrap up event.

This year, awards were also given to Robird Young as the men’s home run champion with Jen Kapellar taking the ladies title.

Devin Blair was named the fastest baserunner.

“It went over well. Zoo’d Crew won it all and my team, Blue Ballers, was in second,” said league president, Dennis Squires.

The growing slo-pitch league in Nipawin has some basic goals but is best summed up as get out and have fun, said Squires.

“Get out, get active, have a few wobbly pops and just enjoy meeting new people and have fun,” he said following the tournament.

The play is based on fun and games,

From only eight teams several years ago, the Nipawin Slo-Pitch now has 14 teams and eight in its final weekend tournament.

Even with the come and go of players, the league has been growing and Squires said they are still looking for more.
