Run For The Cure

Northern Lights Quilters Guild donates ‘cancer quilt’ to local CIBC

Sep 4, 2022 | 11:00 AM

The Melfort CIBC branch was recently presented with a ‘cancer quilt’, courtesy of the Northern Lights Quilters Guild.

The Guild donated the quilt to CIBC, as an item to be included in their contest draw.

The draw will provide clients all across the province to win the quilt, with donations recommended, which will all go towards the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

Financial Service Representative Veronica Patron told northeastNOW efforts like these are always appreciated by local community groups.

“It means so much, especially to have local groups be able to participate. One of my goals with run for the cure was to try and have a local run and this will definitely help with that.”

While there won’t be a local run this year, as this is the first in-person run for the cure, since pre-pandemic times, people are still encouraged to join the run virtually or travel down to Saskatoon on October 2.

Donations and contest ballots can be dropped off at the local CIBC branch or any other branch in Saskatchewan, with many more items available by donation, as well. The draw will take place on September 30.

As for the Guild, they have donated to causes like this in the past and are “extremely happy to continue to do so and give back to the community, which has supported them for years.”

“It’s a great feeling when you give a quilt to somebody who needs it or who has nothing and just needs something to come to them,” said Group President Carol Jones. “We get support from the community and that allows us to give back to the community, so it’s full circle.”

“They (CIBC) were more than happy to accept the donation of the quilt. As a group, we are always involved with the community in one way or another and we do a lot of donations into the community.”
