After taking the summer to spend time with their loved ones, the Kinettes are putting the fun into fundraising by sending a flock of flamingos out.

Kinette and flocking committee member Angie Rolheiser told northeastNOW that not only does this raise funds but it showcases one of the club’s core values.

“The Kinenettes are very family oriented. My two kids come out and help me deliver the flock and it’s super fun for them.”

The flock consists of approximately 30 lawn flamingos and can be sent to any Melfort resident who might need a 48-hour-long lawn makeover.

For $30, flockers can send the birds to their friends and family anonymously unless the flockees pay $10 to catch the culprits pink-handed.

Although the Kinettes are working hard to ensure everyone gets a chance to give their loved ones a feathered surprise, there is only so much time before the ground freezes.

“We went into November to before the ground froze,” Rolheiser added. “We’ve got a list of about a dozen orders already and as we deliver them more orders come in.”

This year the club is hoping to add a second flock to accommodate events such as birthday parties that could use some extra pizzazz to welcome guests.

Those who choose to send a flock or find out who flocked them will be happy to know all of the funds are invested back into the community.

“We put the funds into different community initiatives. So for example, coming up in October is the youth matter mental health symposium,” Rolheiser continued. “We sponsor that because we think that’s a very important initiative in the community.”

The Kinettes are also hosting an open house in hopes of showcasing the various things they do in the community and potentially welcoming new members.

“We always say that being part of the Kinettes isn’t just coming out to be part of a volunteer group. It’s a big family.”

“I think if anybody is on the fence, just come check it out and meet the members. You’ll see how much fun we like to have.”
