Music From An Indigenous Perspective: Free Workshop featuring Diyet van Lieshout, with music
by The Love Soldiers:

WHEN: Thursday, September 29, 7pm

WHERE: EA Rawlinson Centre for the Arts (142 12th St West, PA)

FREE FOR ALL TO ATTEND

Drawing from Diyet’s personal and learned experience as a contemporary and traditional musician, this presentation focuses on Southern Tutchone music—Diyet’s music of land and community—which is presented in her tradition of storytelling.

Diyet guides attendees through a musical encounter of Indigenous identity and understanding. Using a combination of traditional stories and songs, anecdotes from personal experiences and interactive songs and movement, Diyet seeks to build an appreciation of Indigenous music, dispel myths, promote
personal resilience and encourage interest in acts of reconciliation.

This free workshop will start with Diyet singing a traditional song and follows with a formal introduction in Southern Tutchone. From there, Diyet tells her story and that of her people through traditional and contemporary stories and song, concluding with a Q & A.

Participants are encouraged to register at https://forms.gle/jXaoo9zaeXg6z6q26 by 4:30pm on September 29th.
