Mustangs hit road for meeting with Millionaires

Oct 4, 2022 | 8:56 AM

After a weekend at home that saw the Melfort Mustangs earn three of a possible four points, it’s time to hit the road for the Mustangs.

Melfort will visit the Melville Millionaires on Tuesday, Oct. 4 for the first time this season.

Mustang forward Wyatt Day said while they don’t know a ton about the Millionaires, they’re focused on themselves.

“Just go in there, play hard, play our game,” he said. “And the results will come.”

Over the weekend, it was a 5-4 loss to Battlefords, followed by a 6-1 win over Notre Dame. While scoring 10 goals over the two games, Day says it was nice to get the offence going.

“Definitely helps bring confidence up when you have a game like that,” Day said. “But you just keep going. You can’t get too high and you can’t get too low.”

Day and the Mustangs are currently 3-3-2-0 on the year, good for eight points, and second place in the Sherwood Division. Melville is 2-3-1-0 on the season, fourth in the Viterra Division.

Meanwhile, Mustangs forward Riley Ashe was named Rookie of the Week by the SJHL. The 16-year-old had two goals and two assists over four games this week.

Game time on Tuesday for the Mustangs is 7 p.m. at the Horizon Credit Union Centre in Melville. You can catch all the action on 105 CJVR with the voice of the Mustangs, Mat Barrett.
