Hawks take on Terriers in Yorkton
The Hawks will take on Yorkton Tuesday looking for redemption after the Terriers blanked Nipawin 3-0 earlier this Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season.
Sporting a record of four wins, five regulation losses and a loss in both a shootout and overtime the Hawks sit in seventh place in the SJHL standings. Yorkton has had a strong start sitting with a record of five wins and two losses including a 3-0 win over Nipawin on Sept. 25 at the SJHL Showcase in Warman. Head Coach Tad Kozun said the team will need to use their speed if the Hawks hope to return to the win column after a 3-2 loss in Estevan Friday.
“Yorkton is a team that does a really good job of taking away the middle of the ice and keeping you to the outside,” he said. “It’s all about protecting the puck, creating opportunities, and taking advantage of those opportunities. You can’t wait for something to happen.”
The Hawks announced on Thanksgiving Monday they have acquired 2004-born forward Reid Mackay from the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Lloydminster Bobcats for a player development fee. Mackay is from Irma, Alta. and brings 22 games of Western Hockey League experience to Nipawin. Kozun said he expects Mackay to help in several areas.
