Hawks host Humboldt Friday

Oct 14, 2022 | 11:20 AM

The Nipawin Hawks will host the Humboldt Broncos Friday at the Centennial Arena for the first time this Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season.

Coming off a 7-5 victory in Yorkton on Tuesday led by Maguire Ratzlaff’s first career SJHL hat-trick Nipawin feels the club is trending upwards. The Hawks’ captain said the team is looking forward to the test against Humboldt who has just one loss on the season.

“I think this was huge start to the week for us, Yorkton is a good team,” Ratzlaff said after the game versus the Terriers. “I think we’re ready to prove ourselves against the big dogs now.”

The Broncos are coming off their first loss of the season, a 3-2 defeat at home Tuesday against La Ronge. Humboldt is sitting in second place behind the Battlefords North Stars. The Hawks are in sixth place in the SJHL standings. Nipawin head coach Tad Kozun said he’s also looking forward to the match-up against Humboldt at home following some recent trades.
