Nipawin Care & Share returns

Oct 14, 2022 | 5:12 PM

The Nipawin Care and Share has returned for the first time since the pandemic began.

The Care and Share provides a one-stop location for those to drop off donated items and for those in need to acquire what they’ve been looking for.

Organizer Karen Warkentin told northeastNOW the event has been welcomed back with open arms.

“It’s been amazing to us the number of people that have come to us and said when are you having the next care and share, so obviously the excitement for it is there… They’re actually looking forward to being part of it again, so those kinds of things I find pretty impressive.”

Items such as clothes, shoes, toys, bikes, and plastic dishes can be found throughout.

According to Warkentin, she’s seen single moms with little or no income come to grab baby clothes, people with medical issues, veterans, or people who have lost everything in a fire, all benefit from this occasion.

One of the reasons she feels so honoured to be able to put on this event is because of the demand by the town.

“To listen to the stories of the people and that the people want it, that is what amazes me. The people in this community ask for it and look forward to it and that’s why I look forward to it each and every year. This is what the town wants, this is what my hometown wants.”

The day is running from 4-7 p.m., October 14, at the Nipawin Alliance Church.

The Care and Share, which began in the early 2000s, plans to return to its twice-a-year format, once in the fall and once in the spring.

Warkentin added these are the busiest times of year for demand.

“In the fall time when the kids are starting school and the winter weather coming up, they have to find something for the kids and even the adults to be a little bit warmer. In the springtime, all the summer clothes and swimwear and toys and stuff like that, that people enjoy using in the summertime.”
