Mustangs add AJHL veteran

Oct 17, 2022 | 2:56 PM

The Melfort Mustangs have added a player with Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) experience, having played with three different teams.

Ryan Duguay comes to Melfort from the Drumheller Dragons (AJHL), in exchange for a player development fee (PDF).

Duguay, an Edmonton, Alta. product played a total of 56 AJHL games over two seasons, which included stints with the Bonnyville Pontiacs and the Whitecourt Wolverines.

“Ryan is a well-rounded player with good size, speed, and skill,” Mustangs Head Coach and General Manager Trevor Blevins said in a press release sent to northeastNOW. “We believe he can provide some more offence to our forward group.”

So far, in seven games this season, he has been held off the scoresheet.

However, during the 2021/2022 season, the 2003-born forward scored four goals and added six assists, in 26 games with Whitecourt, before being traded to Bonnyville where he scored one goal and added three assists in 23 games.

Prior to his time in the AJHL, the 6-2, 187-pound forward spent two seasons with the CAC Canadians in the Alberta U18 AAA ranks. He tallied 42 points in 38 games over those two years and was the assistant captain in the 2020/2021 season.

Duguay joins a Melfort organization which has been dealing with injuries quite often early this season, as they deepen their roster looking to improve on their current 4-6-4-0 record, starting Friday night at the palace against the Estevan Bruins.
