Kinistino Receives 5 Blooms in National Communities in Bloom Competition

Oct 24, 2022 | 9:31 AM

The Town of Kinistino received a rating of 5 Blooms – Bronze and a special mention for Generous Involvement of Past & Present Residents during the 2022 National/International Symposium and Awards Ceremonies in Victoria, British Columbia.

The Town of Kinistino participated in the Class of Champions – Small category along with Pugwash, NS.

Over the summer, trained volunteer judges travelled to participating communities to evaluate the overall contributions of municipal council and departments; industry; businesses and the private sector – including volunteer efforts – regarding the following criteria: Community Appearance, Environmental Action, Heritage Conservation, Tree Management, Landscape and Plant and Floral Displays.

Following their evaluation, volunteer judges Lorna McIlroy and Linda Tomlinson wrote:

The Town of Kinistino is located in north-central Saskatchewan between Melfort and Prince Albert. Serving a large agricultural area, Kinistino provides all the necessary businesses, along with enviable sports, education, and health services. The residents of Kinistino take immense pride in their community and support it both, socially and financially. The formal CiB Committee may be small in number, but they are generously assisted by the whole population. Working together is a way of life as flowerbeds are weeded, fundraisers are successful, and large projects are financially supported. Former residents of the town and area have made very generous donations to the town for specific projects such as the 2022 construction of the magnificent Kinistino Community Centre. The residents of Kinistino are actively growing a great community together.

All those involved in the Communities in Bloom program can be proud of their efforts, benefitting all of society by providing real and meaningful ways to mitigate climate change
