New acquisition makes huge impact in Mustangs’ recent success

Ryan Duguay has only been in the green and blue for a week, yet it already looks like he’s been here his whole career.

Through just two games with the Melfort Mustangs he’s scored in every game while adding three assists.

Since joining, Melfort is also undefeated (2-0), after last weekend’s home sweep against the Estevan Bruins, (3-0, 3-2).

The 19-year-old scored or assisted on every Mustangs goal in that series, except a Tye Evans empty-net goal, in the Friday contest.

Because of his performance, the 6-2, 187-pound forward has earned the SJHL SGEU MVP of the Week award.

The Edmonton, Alberta product originally came over in a trade from the Drumheller Dragons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, in exchange for a player development fee, back on October 17.

So far that trade has paid huge dividends, as Duguay and the Mustangs aim to continue their hot stretch and extend their first win streak of the season.

For Melfort, it will also be a shot at holding their first above .500 record of the year, when they host the visiting Weyburn Red Wings, tomorrow night (Oct. 25), at the Palace.

Other winners included SaskTel Goalie of the Week, Cody Jaman of the Kindersley Klippers, Directwest Rookie of the Week, Dylan Ruptash of the Yorkton Terriers and Defenceman of the Week, Jordan Grill of the Battlefords North Stars.
