Mustangs looking to continue solid stretch against Red Wings
The Melfort Mustangs are set for a midweek matchup with the Weyburn Red Wings on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at the Northern Lights Palace.
It’ll be the third straight game on home ice for the Mustangs who won back to back games on the weekend. They defeated the Estevan Bruins 3-0 on Friday, and then again on Saturday 3-2. It was the first time the Mustangs have won back to back all season and it seems as though Melfort is slowly finding their groove.
The addition of Ryan Duguay was welcomed for the Mustangs as the 19-year-old won the SJHL’s MVP of the Week after scoring twice and adding three assists on the weekend. He was put on a line with Zac Somers and Riley Ashe, and the three combined for 11 points on the weekend. Somers now leads the team in points with 13, and goals with six.
The Red Wings come into Melfort with a 6-9-0-0 record and are currently tied with five other teams for seventh place in the SJHL. Weyburn is coming off a home and home split with the Melville Millionaires, winning the Saturday matchup 7-5, but falling to the Mils in Melville 6-1.
