Mustangs fall in tight game against Bombers
The Melfort Mustangs have lost back-to-back games in regulation for the first time this season.
This after a 2-1 loss at the hands of the Flin Flon Bombers on Wednesday night at the Northern Lights Palace.
Jaeden Mercier opened the scoring late in the first period for Flin Flon to give them the 1-0 lead they would hold until almost halfway through the third, when Wyatt Cook made it 2-0. Melfort seemed to be right there all night, however, outshooting Flin Flon from the second period onward— 34-26 overall— but not seeming to get one by Harmon Laser-Hume in the Flin Flon net.
It was Jacob Hufty who finally got one to go for the Mustangs just past the halfway point in the third period, giving Melfort life. The Mustangs would get a five-minute powerplay with almost six minutes to play in the third after a match penalty was given to Cole Duperrault. However, Melfort couldn’t tie the game, dropping their record to 7-8-4-0.
