Parent Billet Weekend

Mustangs excited to welcome families and billets for weekend set

Dec 2, 2022 | 10:05 AM

It’ll be a pair of home games this weekend for the Melfort Mustangs as they host their annual Parent-Billet Weekend.

The Mustangs will host the Yorkton Terriers on Friday night for Teddy Bear Toss, and will then welcome the SJHL-leading Battlefords North Stars to the Palace on Saturday night before the annual Calcutta Shootout that is to follow that game.

Mustang Captain Ben Tkachuk said that the team is excited about what’s to come this weekend, but they have to stay focused on the task at hand.

“For us, the main thing is to focus on our game,” Tkachuk said. “We don’t want to go out there and do too much, or do anything that we haven’t been doing over the past 10 games, just want to keep our game simple and the results will come out in our favour.”

Melfort is coming off an excellent month of November where they tallied a 5-1-1-0 record, which included five wins in a row. They were also able to do that without a number of key pieces at various times, including Tkachuk that missed four games with an injury. He said it’s exciting to be back, especially for his last Parent-Billet weekend of Junior A hockey.

“It’s hard sitting in the stands and watching the team,” he said. “It’s easier when they’re winning games, but I’m definitely excited to be back and hopefully help the lineup the best I can.”

Yorkton is 10-15-0-0 on the season, while Battlefords remains undefeated in regulation with a 20-0-2-1 record, with that one shootout loss coming against the Mustangs back in October. Both games on the weekend are at 7:30 p.m. at the Northern Lights Palace.
