The Melfort Mustangs have announced a familiar face has committed to their organization for next year.

2005-born forward Edward Knittig, who has already suited up for the blue and green twice this season (including last Saturday in Humboldt), will join Melfort full-time, once the 2023-2024 season begins.

Knittig, out of Annaheim, Sask., is currently playing with the Yorkton Maulers U18 AAA club where he is currently third on the team in scoring.

Knittig has 12 goals and 14 assists under former Mustangs, Trojans and Outback Thunder head coach Darrell Mann, good for 26 points in 29 games.

“Edward is a very intelligent player that plays the game the right way,” said Mustangs’ head coach and general manager Trevor Blevins. “His development over the past few years has been outstanding and will continue in a Mustangs uniform.”

Meanwhile, during the 2021-2022 season, the six-foot, 176-pound forward played U18 AA for the Humboldt Broncos, scoring 21 times and adding 15 helpers for 36 points, good for second on the team in points, and tied for first in goals.

And, last season, Knittig also spent some games under Mann, this time with the Carrot River Outback Thunder in the Prairie Junior Hockey League (PJHL). There, he notched one assist in four contests.
