The North East SPCA is giving thanks to the community

The North East SPCA are sending their thanks for the community support and looking ahead at what the future holds.

In just six months, the Northeast has provided enough donations to keep the organization out of the dog house.

Acting chair Marianthe Strydom told NortheastNOW that once the community found out about their struggles they stepped up to help.

“Some people have been doing little small fundraisers on their own, and then donating the money. People have been giving us money as well for in memorial of animals or people lost.”

Despite the continued support, Strydom warns that with inflation the tides could quickly turn.

“If costs kept on going up, it’s gonna be a problem again, but at the moment, we have our fundraising committee who’s working really hard, and trying to fundraise.”

Strydom explains that their situation fluctuates from month to month but there is consistent pressure for items such as vet bills.

“It costs a lot to run a shelter, you have your manpower, you need to pay, you have all your utilities, and you have your bed costs, and insurance and mortgage.”

Thankfully the community has continued to donate both their time and money to the shelter to help keep costs down.

For those interested in donating their current wish list consists of kitty litter, nitrile gloves, bleach, dish soap, laundry soap, kitchen catcher, hand brooms, and dustpans.

SPCA is also seeking board members and Strydom is encouraging everyone to apply.

“We need people for a maintenance committee. We had a volunteer who helped with that but unfortunately, he has something else he needs to do. So he can’t help with that anymore.”

If you or someone you know is interested in applying for a board position you can contact the NESPCA at 306 752 7722.
