Broncos add new player for next season

Jan 26, 2023 | 3:29 PM

The Humboldt Broncos organization has added a new forward for the 2023-24 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season.

Ty McKay, a 2005-born centreman, has committed to the Hreen and Yellow and will join later this year.

The 5-foot-10 Calgary, Alta., product, is currently playing for the International Hockey Academy (IHA) U18 Prep Hockey Program.

“We are extremely excited to welcome Ty and his family to the Broncos’ organization next season. He is a natural centreman who is super strong in the position on both sides of the puck,” said head coach and general manager Scott Barney.

In 23 games so far this season, he’s collected 10 goals and nine assists, good for 19 points.

“Ty is a player that our scouting staff had identified for a long time. We’re looking forward to him filling a much-needed hole in our lineup next season. His character, skill, and willingness to work hard to get to the next level are what’s going to make him a great Bronco,” added Barney.

Prior to advancing to the U18 ranks, McKay was dominating the U15 level in his hometown.

In his rookie season, before the pandemic, he produced 56 points in just 30 games played, scoring 26 times while adding 30 helpers, for the NWCAA (Northwest Calgary Athletics Association) Stamps.
