Hawks set for SJHL-MJHL Showcase

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League-Manitoba Junior Hockey League (SJHL-MJHL) Showcase runs Tuesday and Wednesday in Winnipeg with four members of the Nipawin Hawks taking part.

Maquire Ratzlaff, Zander Stewart, Alex Johnson, and Tad Kozun will represent the Hawks and the town in a series of six games between the top 60 SJHL and MJHL players. Kozun said he’s eager to share the experience with a trio of his players.

“It’s always nice to see guys on our team to get recognized and it’s kudos to them for the seasons they are having in the league. We’re looking forward to getting there and having some fun,” Kozun said prior to leaving for the Manitoba capital.

The two leagues have held the Showcase for the last few years. Last year the event didn’t occur and this will be the first time the MJHL has played host. In past years the host site was Co-operators Centre in Regina.

Kozun said it will be his first experience at the Showcase and he’s hoping to network and build relationships to benefit the Hawk attendees and the rest of the team as well.

“Definitely excited and hopefully there is a bunch of schools there that we can talk to them about not only those three guys but other guys on our team as well,” he added.

Nipawin is coming off back-to-back losses against La Ronge but still finished January with seven wins in 10 games. The Hawks are securely in seventh place and will travel to Flin Flon on Saturday for their next game.
