Two of the three people charged in a drug trafficking operation by Prince Albert RCMP last fall have had their charges stayed.

Grant Day, age 44, of Melfort was charged with one count of possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking but had the charge stayed in provincial court on January 23.

Tanis Michel, a 24-year-old man from Kinistino, also had his identical charge stayed on January 30.

Melfort resident David Barks (39) is the lone accused still facing charges and will be back in court on February 27 to elect his trial mode. He is out on bail.

The charges come from a lengthy investigation by the Prince Albert Crime Reduction Team that started in May 2022.

Throughout the summer and fall, officers used specialized advance tactics to watch and track people suspected of trafficking in drugs between Melfort and Kinistino, but reaching into Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Star City, Tisdale and Pleasantdale.

On October 22, the operation ended with members searching three homes, three vehicles and storage unit.

Altogether, 178 grams of cocaine, 15 grams of methamphetamine, cash and three unrestricted guns were seized. No licences were in place for possession of the guns.
