Bringing korean food to the Northeast for good causes

Tisdale Hotel & Pub brought Korean food to the Northeast for a charitable cause, and has no plans on stopping provided it helps the community.

Not only did the Northeast get to experience Asian cuisine, but Skate Tisdale also got a generous donation.

Jay Hur, owner of the Tisdale Hotel & Pub, told northeastNOW that this was a win-win fundraiser.

“Our family is of Korean ethnicity, and it helped us share our culture with other people who may not have experienced it before. I saw the growth of interest in other Asian cuisines, so I wanted to take a chance, as well.”

Although this food won’t be a regular feature on the menu, the Korean cuisine will be available for those hoping to host a fundraiser or a get-together.

Hur explained that originally they were concerned about the response surrounding the cuisine, but that concern quickly faded away.

“People seemed to really love it, and it felt nice to share our culture for other people to experience. It brings us joy when we see other people enjoy and complement our culture’s cuisine,” Hur said.

Filled with bulgogi, glass noodles, fried chicken, tangsu mandu, and rice, 147 Korean super boxes were sold.

The result was $1,000 raised for Skate Tisdale. This is the third time Tisdale Hotel & Pub has helped the organization.

“As long as our business stays open we would like to carry on these type of supper events whenever we can,” Hur continued. “Our business enjoys being a liaison for people who might find it difficult to get a way to fundraise and help.”

Other organizations they have raised money for include Tisdale’s fire department and the Tisdale Kinsmen.

Hur thanks the community for coming out to these events.

“I am grateful that other people are willing to try new dishes or else these suppers wouldn’t be as successful as they are.”
