71-year-old charged with dealing pot in Nipawin

A 71-year-old man from Nipawin is facing charges of having over three kilograms of cannabis and a plan to sell it illegally.

RCMP said that on Feb. 19, they pulled over a vehicle on Nipawin Road East at about 3:00 pm and noticed a strong smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle.

The officer asked the driver about the odour and responded that he had about 2.3 kg of cannabis inside.

He was not licensed to possess that quantity and the distribution is illegal.

A search of the vehicle and the driver’s home in Nipawin resulted in the discovery of another 1.5 kilograms of cannabis, scales and plastic bags.

The accused, who was not named by police, is charged with having more than 30 grams of cannabis in a public place and possession for the purpose of distribution, contrary to the Cannabis Act.

He will appear in court in Nipawin on April 26.
