Residents across Saskatchewan are invited to check out 1000 miles of snow

Saskatchewan residents and visitors alike are invited to check out 1000 Miles of Snow to see what the Northeast truly has to offer.

The 1000 Miles of Snow campaign started in 2013 by Snowmobile Northeast Saskatchewan to help generate economic growth.

Community Futures Newsask in Tisdale CEO Taylor Watt told northeastNOW that they hope to bring people to the Northeast.

“We feel the world-class snow trails can get people from outside the region and even including the region. Just be aware of them and come to our area and check out the snowmobile trails.”

The communities currently involved in the 1000 Miles of Snow campaign are Star City, Bjorkdale, Hudson Bay, Porcupine Plain, Carrot River, Nipawin, Arborfield, Melfort and Tisdale.

“Each community offers a wide variety of activities, restaurants, lodging, food and much more,” Watt said. “There definitely are also private places along the way that also cater to the snowmobilers.”

Although the length of the trail may be intimidating for some riders, there are various points at which snowmobilers can jump on or off the trail to experience the region.

“There are a number of spots. You can start at any spot on the trails as they all connect. It depends on what you want to see and what kind of landscape you want to check out.”

Although winter may be coming to a close, Watt reminds riders there are still a few good weeks left before the trails begin to melt.

“I’d encourage anybody to get out, just try it out and just get a feel for it,” Watt continued “Maybe it’s just a quick trip but I mean, give you a feel for next year. Maybe you play a little bigger trip.”

For towns wanting to join in on the campaign, all towns in East Central Saskatchewan are welcome. All participating towns make a small donation to the project and elect a representative to attend regular meetings.
